FULL MOON FEBRUARY 2020

FULL MOON IN ASHLESHA NAKSHATRA February 9, 2020 at 2:34am

Ashlesha Nakshatra resides entirely within the sign of Cancer consisting of a circle of 6 stars in the Constellation of Hydra, the female water snake.  Its known as the clinging star for entangling any object it is focused on!  Ahi, the Naga or wisdom serpent is the ruling Diety representing the kundalini at the base of the spine, which when activated can bring mystical powers, Shakti and enlightenment but it can also be detrimental to the person if they are not prepared for it or have a teacher to guide them in this awakening.  Thus duality and unpredictability is the theme for this full moon.

The serpent has always been a symbol of divine wisdom, sexuality, prosperity but also danger and trouble. It’s energy must be respected and harnessed otherwise it will use it’s power to inflict poisonous venom (visasleshana shakti)  Mercury rules Ashlesha and the Moon rules Cancer making the nature of this Nakshatra very mentally oriented.  Cancer is sensitive, intuitive, thoughtful and mothering while Mercury is all about communication, thinking, writing and teaching.  The two together can inspire creativity, a desire to write or speak and also to research.

The Moon is also receiving Saturn and Mars aspects which are both malefic planets, meaning they are sometimes harsh in nature and bringing obstacles and delays.  Mars is transiting the galactic center at the moment, Mula Nakshatra located in Sagittarius (February 7th -27th), which is ruled by Niritti, the hindu goddess of destruction, who has the power to break things apart (barhana shakti).  Mula translates to “root” and this Nakshatra is known to inflict pain, but the pain is just to get you seeking divine assistance.  This aspect on the Moon could find us uprooting emotional things.

Saturn in Uttara Ashadha is a bit softer and more stable.  This Nakshatra is all about victory so even if these aspects bring more of their malefic qualities seems the result will still be victorious.  All of this energy is occurring in the 9th house of Dharma, Philosophy/Religion and good fortune (one of the bases of the Spiritual Triangle formed by the 1st, 5th and 9th houses).

Venus is transiting Pisces, it’s sign of Exaltation, until 2/28 bringing it’s highest expression of love, beauty and creativity.  She is very visible in the night sky these evenings.  Saturn is also much more happy these days having returned home to Capricorn after 29 years away.

This full moon marks the close of the Imbolc Portal(more info in previous blog) that opened on the January New Moon.  In ancient times Imbolc would have been celebrated on the full moon of February rather than a set date as they followed a Lunar Calendar then.  This return from the underworld is a slow emergence, as the days begin to lengthen we begin to wake from the hibernation.  Hard to believe we are just 6 weeks away from equal days and nights, Spring Equinox.  I will be offering a special later this month for Herbal Consultations in honor of Imbolc and to help you reset your system as the season changes to prevent sickness.  There is a video on my instagram from 2/7 with some details.  Wishing you an easeful emergence and sending you lots of love and peace.

Love
