The Banshee (bean sidhe) or fairy women came to me as the guide for crossing the menopause threshold.I was uncertain and surprised at first as I would have logically chose the Cailleach but as I worked with her it began to unravel.In Irish folklore she is the female spirit who announces a family members death by screaming, wailing, or keening.I’ve heard stories about her for years from people whose family members experienced it.I met a lovely man by the incredible name Pius in the Burren in County Clare, Ireland who had the best story of all, having experienced her shrieking first hand.It all came together for me as I began to experience some things that would be considered menopausal symptoms this last year.Menopause is not just when the body ceases bleeding, it begins long before that, if we are paying attention.Just like the Banshee she announces herself letting you know that death is approaching, transformation is taking place.
