LAKSHMI HAIR OIL
LAKSHMI HAIR OIL
Before becoming an herbalist I was a a Hairdresser and Esthetician for 25yrs, co-founding my own salon Lakshmi Hair Studio in 2007 which is still thriving today. I was trained by Aveda and spent my career using only botanical products. I was blessed to come on to the hair scene in 1995 when more botanical brands were popping up. Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of Aveda, was my first introduction to botanical oils. What a powerhouse of knowledge and inspiration this man is! That was the beginning of my journey into the world of botanical beauty and where my cosmetology and esthetician skills were honed and where I was shown how plants can heal skin and hair as well. In my years of being a hairdresser and salon owner I only used botanical lines, Aveda, Phytologie and Kevin Murphy. Aveda changed the beauty game with their plant dyed hair color, aerosol free hairspray, eco packaging and luxurious treatments and oils filled with plants and plant pigments and aromas. I am so grateful I came to that path of Holistic Beauty when I did, just a baby of 18yrs. Aveda trained cosmetologists and estheticians were in their own little pack and considered in “the cult of Aveda”, lol.I am so grateful I wasn’t on the other side of beauty, where chemicals and injections are par for the course, causing auto immune issues, cancer etc. Not to mention feeding low self esteem.
This oil in particular was inspired by an oil we used in the Salon years ago but a much more concentrated version and with no preservatives. I like to do a treatment every month on the new moon, braid my hair and sleep with it in. 20 mins will also hydrate the hair. Shampoo and condition in the morning. It leaves incredible shine, penetrates deeply into the hair cuticle. If you color or highlight your hair this oil can be applied directly into the color or lightener bowl (10 drops) to infuse moisture into the hair while the cuticle is open during the coloring process. A drop or two can easily be used to smooth frizz.
Horsetail is a plant that contains natural Silica and when it is steeped in oil it extracts that Silica. Many shine and gloss products use a synthetic silica which may produce a shine but is not healing the hair cuticle and over time will actually dry the hair out. Marshmallow Root contains mucilage which is a thick gel like substance that hydrates and moisturizes the hair. It is also strengthening to the hair, helps detangle and is soothing to the scalp promoting hair growth. Plantain is high in Vit C and E which moisturizes hair, supports good scalp circulation and strengthens hair follicles. It can sooth irritated scalp helping with dryness itching and breaking. Calendula moisturizes the scalp and has anti fungal and bacterial properties so it naturally fights dandruff. It is also moisturizing and is anti oxidant rich. Licorice Root soothes scalp, nourishes follicles, promotes growth helps with thinning of the hair. Comfrey moisturizes, softens and detangles the hair strands while also soothing and nourishing the scalp. It contains compounds of allantoin, mucilage and anti oxidants which strengthen the hair and support a healthy scalp. Rose hydrates and strengthens hair strands while soothing the scalp and promoting hair growth. Rosemary and Lemon are invigorating and hair growth promoting.
