JULY FULL MOON/LUNAR ECLIPSE

Guru Purnima (Full Moon) Eclipse July 5, 2020 @12:45 EST in Purva Ashadha Nakshatra- The Cosmic Waters

Guru Purnima is celebrated every year on the 1st Full Moon following the Summer Solstice and is a day where those in a Vedic Tradition honor the “Guru” or teacher.  Guru means “remover of darkness” so this applies to anyone or anything in your life that has removed darkness for you or better yet the “Guru within”, which is the ultimate goal!  Our Plant, Animal and Elemental Spirits are also included in this as well.  This is my lunar birthday and every year feels more auspicious than celebrating my day birthday so I do both.  Mothercraft was born on Guru Purnima as well. Because the moon will begin waning after midnight, Sunday evening is best to do your rituals while the moon is still waxing.

Let’s talk a little bit about this area of the sky that the Eclipse is taking place.  Purva Ahsadha consists of two stars (Kaus Borealis & Kaus Australis) which form an archers bow.  This constellation is ruled by Venus and Jupiter rules Sagittarius   so there is wisdom and beauty oozing from this nakshatra.  It’s known as the invincible star and said to bring about purification and regeneration through early victories and can ultimately cleanse pride and ego.

Apas and the Water spirits rule this nakshatra giving rise to humanity and granting the Shakti of invigoration, something we could all use right about now.  The water element is associated with the West and deals with our intuition, dreams and emotions.  Aside from this particular full moon the water element has been calling out to me in the past few months as a vessel for letting go and gazing deeply, using my intuition.  Letting go rituals could easily be done with the element of fire too but now more than ever we need the assistance of the Divine Feminine and we experience her through our rivers, oceans and lakes.  She holds the Chalice from which we drink, she is the mother of all mothers and she will invigorate you every time.  Baptism and Anointing doesn’t have to happen just once.  We all need to be submerging ourselves in cold water right now to cool the fire burning in our heads and hearts.

The ancient Druids and Celts believed the beach represented a liminal place, a threshold, that stands as a gateway between this world and the Otherworld.  Where the Water meets the sand is a thin place and if the sun is rising or setting it makes it even thinner.  The Spirits roam freely in the thin places. I have been using the Atlantic Oceans cosmic waters for a month now almost daily to purify me and regenerate me during these difficult times and it has been such a gift.  Everything is better after a dip.  And my daughter and I pretend we are Selkies and collect seaweed….or I should say we remember our lifetimes as Selkies but that is a story for another time. These same waters that held me all through my childhood and the same beach for the last 43 years.  The beach is my altar and the roaring sea is my medicine, together we can move mountains…or should I say we have moved mountains!

A beautiful reflection during this full moon is to recall all of the bodies of water that have supported you through your life, the ones that surround where you live or those that hold significance to your culture and go spend some time there and make an offering of gratitude and baptize yourself after by submerging yourself in the water.  In Celtic and Vedic philosophy the cosmic waters of the rivers and seas are honored in the same way as the gods and goddesses.  I personally make daily offerings from my heart to Ma Ganga, the Goddess Boanne who rules the River Boyne in Ireland, Sea of Galilee, the Delaware River, Atlantic Ocean and the Skuylkill River and other potent cosmic waters that I have been anointed by.

There are many other conjunctions and retrogrades going on at the moment and that I have already written about so I won’t be going into any of those with this blog.  My main intention with this piece is to inspire a water ritual within you or gratitude for our sacred waters and a reminder that she is there to help us more than ever now and this is a remedy for these times  Enjoy this beautiful nectar that will be available this weekend as we will need it to sustain us through the remainder of 2020. It’s gonna take a lot of maintenance and ritual to keep harmony within us over the next 6 months so don’t say your weren’t given remedies, lol.

Wishing you a Magical Full Moon

Love
